The Dallas Rattlers added 13 players Wednesday through trades and the 2018 Supplemental Draft. The draft class is highlighted by four Texas residents Zack Greer, Christian Carson-Banister (pictured), Zack Price and Luke Cometti.
Prior to the draft, the Rattlers traded for attackman Randy Staats, midfielder Jesse King and a seventh round collegiate draft pick in exchange for a future third, fourth and sixth round pick.
Rattlers head coach and general manager Bill Warder selected midfielder Jack Curran (Villanova ‘17) in the first round, sixth overall. Curran, a former collegiate draft pick of the Rochester Rattlers, adds a dynamic skill set to the offensive attack. “He can dodge, feed, shoot, play either midfield or attack. He’s very, very versatile on the offensive side of the ball,” Warder said of Curran.
Further into the draft, Warder added depth at all positions and picked up several players currently residing in Texas. Greer, Cometti and Price are transplants to the Lone Star State but Carson-Banister grew up in Dallas and attended Jesuit Dallas.
The Rattlers were a playoff team in 2017 prior to relocation, falling just short of the championship game with a semi-final loss to the Denver Outlaws. With the added crop of talent, coach Warder has positioned the team to once again be a championship contender.
